Jeffrey M. Zacks has been appointed as the Edgar James Swift Professor in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis.
Zacks holds the position of chair within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences in Arts & Sciences, in addition to being a professor of radiology at the School of Medicine.
Zacks focuses on cognition in ordinary situations, including event comprehension, navigation, and the brain’s interpretation of films and media. A significant area of his research investigates how cognition shifts with healthy aging and age-related neurological conditions. He attained his bachelor’s degree from Yale University and both his master’s degree and PhD from Stanford University.
The professorship was founded in 2003 to commemorate Edgar James Swift, the inaugural chair of the psychology department. Financial support for the Swift professorship was made possible through The Kate M. Gregg Faculty Development Fund, created in 2001 from a generous endowment by a 1959 WashU alumna.
