For the inaugural time in its history, the women’s tennis team from Washington University in St. Louis clinched the national title, overcoming Pomona-Pitzer 4-3 on May 23 in Claremont, California. This championship signifies the 27th in WashU Athletics’ legacy and the second for the academic year 2024-25.
WashU commenced the postseason positioned at No. 9. The Bears concluded their dual matches with a record of 13-7 and captured third place in the University Athletic Association.
The Bears were also recognized with several individual accolades. Freshman Caitlin Bui stood out for WashU as the UAA Rookie of the Year, marking the second consecutive year the Bears have celebrated a Rookie of the Year. Bui also secured first-team distinctions for No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. Sophomore Eleanor Archer gained first-team recognition at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Junior Eliana Hanna received second-team accolades at No. 3 singles along with an honorable mention at No. 3 doubles, while fellow freshman Ally Lin earned second-team recognition at No. 4 singles and received honorable mention at No. 3 doubles. Furthermore, the coaching staff, comprising Paige Madara, head coach, and Erin Swaller, assistant coach, were awarded UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time since 2005.
