Fifth-year WashU scholar Kyle Wolford captured the national championship in the 200-yard backstroke achieving a time of 1:44.15 on March 22 in Greensboro, N.C. He is the 27th athlete from the university to secure an individual national title. WashU athletes now boast a total of 49 individual NCAA champions.

This marks the second consecutive national title in the 200-yard backstroke for the men’s swimming and diving team, with Alex McCormick winning the title last year while Wolford placed third.

Wolford is currently enrolled in a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree program in computer science at the McKelvey School of Engineering.
