The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia (UGA) is excited to declare the appointment of Rachel Waldrop (formerly Reese) as the Director and Curator of the Dodd Galleries and Athenaeum, a contemporary art venue unassociated with permanent collections and linked to UGA.

“I am delighted to become a part of the dynamic community at UGA—my alma mater—and apply my expertise and experience in the field to the esteemed Lamar Dodd School of Art,” Waldrop remarked. “The Athenaeum represents a contemporary art treasure for the city of Athens, and I eagerly anticipate collaborating with artists to bring it to life and connect with the community in innovative ways.”

Waldrop most recently served as the Director and Curator of the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Chattanooga located on the campus of the University of Tennessee Chattanooga (UTC) since 2020. The ICA Chattanooga holds the distinction of being the first ICA in Tennessee, and since its public opening in 2021, she has overseen the ICA’s branding and strategic initiatives along with an ambitious exhibition lineup that features solo shows, among others, with Ilana Harris-Babou (2021), Terry Adkins (2021), Kristine Potter (2022), Jamie Isenstein (2022), Stacy Kranitz (2023), Kevin McNamee-Tweed (2023), Becky Suss (2024), and Adam Parker Smith (2024), alongside related acquisitions and new scholarly endeavors including course offerings.
