UGA Presents is thrilled to host the world-renowned violinist Augustin Hadelich at Hodgson Concert Hall on September 30 at 7:30 p.m.
Hadelich, renowned for his extraordinary skill, enchanting tone, and profound interpretations, will present an unaccompanied recital featuring compositions by Telemann, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, Ysaÿe, Paganini, and J.S. Bach.
Hadelich has collaborated with all significant American orchestras and on an international scale with the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Philharmonic, and numerous others.
The Athens program highlights the diversity of the violin repertoire, spanning from Baroque masterpieces to contemporary pieces influenced by jazz and blues. It presents an exploration of the violin’s expressive potential — from Telemann’s creative 18th-century fantasias to Perkinson’s daring blend of jazz, blues, and classical styles, culminating in the legendary skills of Paganini. The evening will close with Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D minor, whose ending “Ciaccona” is deemed one of the most significant compositions ever crafted for solo violin.
Hadelich will engage with violin students from the Hugh Hodgson School of Music from 10 a.m. to noon on October 1 in the Performing Arts Center’s Ramsey Concert Hall. The master class is complimentary and accessible to the public.
Hadelich plays on the 1744 “Leduc, ex Szeryng” violin crafted by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù, generously lent by the Tarisio Trust.
This performance is made possible with the support of John A. Maltese.
