When calamity befalls a university campus, law enforcement and emergency responders are prepared to leap into action. However, what transpires in the subsequent days to restore the campus to normalcy?
This is the inquiry that a group of faculty, staff, and administrators from the University of Georgia aimed to tackle. In partnership with the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP), the Institute for Disaster Management (IDM) was enlisted to develop the inaugural UGA University Assistance Center (UAC) plan.
This strategy functions as a blueprint for an essential, in-person resource center that could be activated in the wake of a disaster disrupting regular campus activities at UGA. When initiated, the UAC would provide a comprehensive resource for all information and services the UGA community might require to ensure a seamless transition back to standard operations.
