The University of Georgia Career Center offers pupils exceptional chances to investigate various career avenues. On March 21, the Career Center arranged a “Career Caravan” to two notable Atlanta-based organizations: Delta Air Lines and IHG Hotels & Resorts. This engaging experience was designed to provide UGA pupils with direct insights from the hospitality sector.

At Delta Air Lines, attendees participated in an in-flight service training tour that revealed the vibrant world of airline operations. Led by two current flight attendants, students observed the extensive training involved. They also took part in authentic in-flight simulations, tackling emergency landing situations on a hydraulic simulator, experiencing turbulence, utilizing evacuation slides, and practicing water landings along with raft deployment.

The day included a firsthand look at the latest Delta aircraft model, featuring Delta One seating and a practical session on in-flight concession and cart services. UGA alumni employed as flight attendants shared their personal experiences and provided knowledge about their careers, expectations, and growth opportunities.

“The trip with Delta and IHG Caravan was a phenomenal and enlightening experience, connecting my hospitality networks and offering direct insight into the operations and cultures of these two leading firms,” stated Angela Nguyen, a student in hospitality and food industry management. “This educational and motivational journey provided invaluable viewpoints that I will carry forward in my career.”

At IHG Hotels & Resorts, pupils participated in a presentation that centered on talent and culture, as well as the organization’s recruitment practices. A networking lunch allowed for interaction with IHG representatives, many of whom were UGA alumni, and shared high-level industry insights. These alumni addressed student inquiries, providing real-world perspectives on career avenues and industry standards.

The visit encompassed an overview of IHG’s varied brand portfolio, operational structure, and corporate ethos, followed by a tour of their corporate environment. Students also learned about the revitalization of the Crowne Plaza, now ranking No. 1 on TripAdvisor in the Dunwoody area, highlighting IHG’s dedication to excellence and innovation in the hospitality field.

“Building and sustaining partnerships is advantageous for both sides, allowing us to support students while offering companies direct access to UGA’s talent pool,” mentioned Brandon Solie, UGA career consultant. “We are thankful for partners like IHG and Delta who help us continue to enhance the student experience at UGA.”

The Career Caravan illustrates the UGA Career Center’s dedication to preparing students with the necessary tools and experiences for prosperous career journeys. Recent Career Caravan tours have included the Atlanta Braves, Google-Midtown, Boston Scientific, and Insight Global.

“These Career Caravan experiences are essential for our students to gain exposure to industry leaders and close the gap between academic instruction and professional application,” said Scott Williams, executive director of the UGA Career Center. “By directly engaging with companies like Delta and IHG, our pupils acquire invaluable knowledge about corporate culture, hiring methods, and possible career trajectories.”

Career Caravans occur every semester. Organizations interested in hosting UGA students for a future Career Caravan should reach out to Will Lewis at [email protected].
