EVENT: The University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance will present a master class featuring songwriters and producers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Both esteemed alumni of SMTD, the pair will collaborate with a selection of musical theater students on their interpretations of Pasek & Paul compositions as part of the Sally Fleming Master Class Series.
Pasek & Paul are acclaimed Oscar, Grammy, Tony, Emmy, and Olivier Award-winning songwriters and producers, renowned for their contributions to La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen, each of which produced albums that achieved Top 10 status on the Billboard 200.
In 2018, The Greatest Showman soundtrack claimed the title of the world’s best-selling album and maintained a No. 1 position on the Billboard charts for numerous weeks.
In 2024, they attained their inaugural Emmy Award as songwriters for Only Murders in the Building, which secured their EGOT distinction, placing them among an exclusive group of artists who have received all four major entertainment accolades.
This duo also became the youngest recipients of the Jonathan Larson Award and the first individuals in stage or screen writing to receive the ASCAP Vanguard Award.
