Florida State University’s Tyler Center for Global Studies Announces 12 Dynamic Partner Institutions

The national Tyler Center for Global Studies, hosted and orchestrated by Florida State University, has designated 12 affiliate institutions that will serve as a network of schools connecting undergraduate students nationwide with international research and global exploration.

William H. Tyler III founded the Tyler Center for Global Studies in 2022 aiming to inspire undergraduate students to engage in global research that can positively influence the future. Since its inception, the Tyler Center for Global Studies has provided funding to 49 students throughout the United States to pursue international research initiatives.

“The Tyler Center perceives that the dilemmas and obstacles confronting society today are increasingly global in scope, and that the solution to effectively addressing and surmounting these challenges relies on fostering an understanding of and gratitude for global solutions,” remarked Tyler, who passed away in 2024.

“FSU takes pride in coordinating the Tyler Center Network, collaborating with partner institutions that share our dedication to global education and research.”

– Joe O’Shea, FSU associate provost and dean of Undergraduate Studies

Alongside FSU, Tyler Center grants amounting to $222,000 will be distributed to Austin Community College, Johns Hopkins University, Monroe Community College, SUNY Oneonta, Syracuse University, University of California-San Diego, University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, University of Missouri-Kansas City, University of Texas at Austin, University of Washington, and William & Mary.

“FSU is proud to coordinate the Tyler Center Network, and to collaborate with partner institutions committed to global education and research,” stated Joe O’Shea, FSU Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies. “We eagerly anticipate partnering with other Tyler schools to support even more students as they partake in meaningful work and education abroad.”

As the primary institution, FSU manages the Tyler Center Grant Program, enabling public and private post-secondary institutions to apply for funds from the Tyler Center. Undergraduate students from these various institutions are then eligible to apply to become a Tyler Fellow and receive financial support for international research endeavors.
