The NOAA Office of Education has chosen two students from the University of Georgia’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, Margaret Needham and Adam “Grayson” Smith, as Ernest F. Hollings undergraduate scholars for the 2025 cohort. Needham and Smith are among 130 recipients selected from 820 candidates this year.
The Hollings Scholarship Program offers successful undergraduate nominees awards that encompass tuition assistance (up to $9,500 annually) for two years of full-time enrollment, along with a 10-week, full-time paid internship ($700/week) at a NOAA facility during the summer, in addition to funding for attendance at two national scientific conferences.
The 2025 Hollings undergraduate scholars participated in orientation held from May 27-29 and will carry out their 10-week internships during the summer of 2026.
Both Needham and Smith are pursuing double majors in geography and atmospheric sciences.
