The Internet Storm Center and DShield platforms have been around for approximately 25 years. In the past, I made some dubious choices that I have yet to rectify fully. One of these choices involved utilizing a “15 character 0-padded” style for IP addresses. This style padded each byte of the IP address with leading zeros, guaranteeing that each was 15 characters long (including the periods).
