The Bouchet Graduate Honor Society, founded in 2005 by Yale University and Howard University, honors exceptional academic accomplishments and advocates for excellence in doctoral education and faculty development. Recently, WashU welcomed five doctoral candidates and five postdoctoral researchers into the society.

This marks the second consecutive year that the university has put forth postdoctoral fellows for induction into the society. The inductees were officially welcomed into the society during the annual Yale Bouchet Conference on Graduate Education.

Named in honor of the first African American to earn a doctoral degree in the United States, the honor society aims to cultivate a network of distinguished scholars who reflect both academic and personal excellence, nurture supportive environments, and act as role models of scholarship, leadership, integrity, service, and advocacy for students in academia.

The 2025 Washington University Bouchet doctoral inductees consist of:

  • Maegan Ruiz Arney, focusing on educational psychology;
  • Ashlynn Berry, specializing in chemistry;
  • Tiana Johnson, concentrating on mathematics;
  • Jaisal Merchant, working in psychological and brain sciences; and
  • Sierra Wallace, engaged in molecular genetics and genomics.

The 2025 Washington University Bouchet postdoctoral inductees include:

  • Fithi Andom, specializing in social work;
  • Maria Felicita Gonzalez-Aponte, focused on biology;
  • Keri-Lyn Kozul, with a focus on biochemistry and molecular biophysics;
  • Richa Mishra, working in immunology and infectious diseases; and
  • Ray Yang, specializing in chemistry.
