Do you feel the desire to declutter your wardrobe? Students, staff, local residents, and businesses are invited to contribute their gently used professional attire to the FSU Career Center’s Professional Clothing Closet. The yearly Spring Cleaning with Meaning Clothing Drive will take place from March 1 to April 1.
Spring Cleaning with Meaning presents a chance for the FSU Career Center to support students in need while promoting awareness of the Professional Clothing Closet. In 2024, the Closet provided 6,100 clothing items to students, thanks to the generosity of 280 contributors. During the Fall 2024 term, over 1,400 students made use of the closet.
“The closet serves as an essential asset for students, offering access to professional clothing for both campus and off-campus requirements,” remarked Heather Lazar, senior assistant director of employee relations at the Career Center. “An increasing number of students are taking advantage of the Professional Clothing Closet every semester, and this clothing drive is beneficial.”
Contributions to the Professional Clothing Closet must be clean, undamaged, and clearly marked with sizes, in addition to reflecting contemporary fashion in ‘business professional’ or ‘elevated business casual’ styles. Items that do not align with these criteria will be redirected to other local charities.
This year’s drive is accepting all gently used or nearly new professional clothing items for both men and women. Items that are in demand include:
- Suits, blazers, dress trousers, skirts, and tops
- “Like new” dress shoes
- Accessories, including belts and ties
“As a graduate of FSU and someone who guides numerous students, I have always found fulfillment in donating interview attire to your program,” shared an anonymous contributor. “It brings me joy to know that FSU supports individuals on their post-college journey, and it all begins with making a strong first impression at an interview.”
