At the core of Florida State University’s grounds, a lively melting pot of cultures flourishes within the Congress of Graduate Students (COGS). COGS, which esteems representatives from nine different nations this year, functions as an essential platform enabling international students to advocate for their interests, honor their cultural backgrounds, and influence their academic experiences.

As part of the Student Government Association system, COGS acts as the official representation for post-baccalaureate, special, masters, specialist, professional, and doctoral scholars at FSU. Currently, international scholars account for 16% of the graduate student population on FSU’s campus, with 26% constituting COGS’ present representatives.

“Given that international students represent such a substantial and influential segment of FSU’s graduate demographic, it is vital for these students to feel that their governing entities value their opinions and actively engage with them,” stated Jack Rowan, speaker of the 33rd Congress of Graduate Students and a student in the College of Law. “[COGS] has a commendable history of being a venue where international graduate scholars can express their voices and take on leadership roles within the Congress and the Graduate Student Body.”
