Eight recent graduates and one current learner from Washington University in St. Louis have been awarded Fulbright grants to go overseas to teach English or to perform research during the 2025-26 academic year. This initiative acknowledges exceptional leaders and scholars dedicated to fostering international cooperation and comprehension.

This year’s awardees include:

  • Lisa Gong, an active MD student at WashU School of Medicine. Gong received a grant to pursue medical sciences research in Taiwan;
  • Pranav Kirti, who completed their studies in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in data science from the McKelvey School of Engineering. Kirti was awarded a grant to perform computer science research in Germany;
  • Nathan Lin, who finished in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Arts & Sciences. Lin received a grant to conduct biology research in Sweden;
  • Sarah Matney, who graduated in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in psychological and brain sciences from Arts & Sciences. Matney was awarded a grant to carry out public health research in India;
  • Henry Michael, who graduated in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in history from Arts & Sciences. Michael received a grant to conduct history research in Lesotho;
  • Emma Ryan, who graduated in 2024 with bachelor’s degrees in political science and economics from Arts & Sciences. Ryan earned a grant to teach English in Greece;
  • Isaac Seiler, who completed their degree in 2025 with a bachelor’s in sociology from Arts & Sciences. Seiler received a grant to teach English in Taiwan;
  • Sarai Steinberg, who graduated in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in American culture studies from Arts & Sciences. Steinberg was awarded a grant to teach English in Mexico; and
  • Rick Wang, who graduated in 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Arts & Sciences. Wang also received a grant to teach English in Taiwan.

Two further alumni were offered grants but chose to decline them. Furthermore, six alumni were designated as alternates.

Established in 1946, the Fulbright Program has awarded over 400,000 grants to students, scholars, and professionals in various disciplines. Washington University in St. Louis has been recognized as a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for U.S. students for multiple consecutive years.
