Kim Thuy Seelinger, an associate professor of research at the Brown School and a visiting educator at the School of Law, both situated at Washington University in St. Louis, will deliver a keynote speech at the international symposium “Justice Denied: Combatting Widespread Impunity for Conflict-Related Sexual Violence” on June 2 at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

The event is supported by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the Australian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria.

The aim of the gathering is to encourage interdisciplinary conversation and critical evaluation of the advancements made in the struggle against impunity for conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) within the Indo-Pacific area. The conference will assemble perspectives from international leaders, government representatives, scholars, and CRSV survivors to pinpoint essential action points for renewed cooperation at both policy and practical levels.

Seelinger specializes in sexual violence during armed conflicts and forced displacement. She was on academic sabbatical from fall 2023 until the previous semester, taking on a senior management role at the International Criminal Court Office of the Prosecutor, where she directed the office’s initiatives on gender-based offenses and crimes impacting children. She is set to return to the Danforth Campus in August.
