Sydney E. Scott, an associate professor of marketing at Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, has been recognized as one of Poets & Quants’ “Best 40-under-40 MBA Professors” for 2025.

Scott examines the psychology behind consumer choices. Her prior investigations have explored how beliefs about moral character influence medical decision-making, consumer perceptions of “natural” versus genetically modified foods, and how individuals strive to enhance and sustain their health.
Currently, Scott instructs marketing research courses within Olin’s MBA program. She expressed to Poets & Quants that what she values most about educating business students is their involvement and the inquiries and narratives they contribute in class. “I enjoy discussing their activities and how to determine the appropriate decision utilizing data,” she remarked. Nonetheless, this also presents a challenge. “No year replicates another, and each student brings forth unique questions, contexts, and applications pertinent to their own professional paths.”
In 2023, Scott earned recognition as a Marketing Science Institute Young Scholar, a distinction given to researchers “whose work indicates they are likely leaders of the emerging generation of marketing academics.” In 2024, she was awarded the WashU Provost’s Research Excellence Award in acknowledgment of her contributions.
