A cohort of 10 researchers from various institutions within the University System of Georgia (USG) collaborated with scholars from the University of Georgia Skidaway Institute of Oceanography’s (SkIO) Rivero-Calle Lab for an instructional voyage aboard the Research Vessel Savannah from April 28-30, 2025.
This three-day expedition aimed to deepen the early-career researchers’ comprehension of optical oceanography and provide a practical chance to acquire new skills utilizing an assortment of instruments for gathering oceanographic information.
The voyage also granted participants the chance to connect with USG colleagues with a shared interest in optical oceanography. The scientists involved included scholars from Georgia College and State University (GCSU), Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), Georgia Southern University (GSU), Savannah State University (SSU), and the University of Georgia (UGA), as well as a faculty member from Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) and a postdoctoral researcher from Georgia Tech.
