Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor are two invigilation tools designed to prevent cheating during online exams. Installed onto student’s computers, these invigilation tools use web cameras to record test takers before analyzing video footage to detect any unauthorized actions that might take place during an exam session. They are available across various platforms (including iPad), allowing instructors to monitor students in an on-campus-like setting; flagging any inappropriate behavior like leaving class early or looking at books without permission.
This system records audio and video of students taking assessments, while simultaneously collecting other relevant data during test sessions. After being processed automatically for analysis purposes, any potentially illegal actions detected during a session are then sent directly to an instructor who reviews it before notifying any potential violations to students.
Respondus Monitor records information such as facial expressions, location (such as home or work), and personal details like name and email address of students using its system. Please be aware that some of this data may be shared with third-parties such as PayPal; additionally it could be stored on servers outside the EU governed by different sets of laws.
Respondus Monitor uses cameras to capture students taking tests as well as their surroundings, using facial recognition technology and algorithmic detection methods to detect any suspicious activities – like someone entering the room. Respondus then analyzes this footage using facial recognition algorithms in combination with algorithmic detections in order to flag such activity quickly – video footage is usually returned back to students within eight hours.
Respondus uses a secure cloud storage system to safeguard all the information and data it gathers from any unauthorized access. Furthermore, their servers and software are secured using multi-level firewalls and other safeguards; third-party security firms conduct periodic penetration testing of their systems as an extra safeguard measure.

It’s convenient
Respondus Monitor provides an effective means of combatting cheating during online tests. Utilizing a student webcam, this feature records and analyses an exam session using cutting-edge computer vision technology in order to detect attempts at proctoring as well as identify its location within a room, along with who else may be present in that space. After each exam session has completed, an instructor can review this report of actions taken during it for suspicious behaviors or any indications thereof.
The system is easy to use, enabling instructors to quickly identify students who may be trying to cheat in class. Unfortunately, monitoring large classes using this tool may prove challenging: instructors must manually click through each individual student’s snapshot and video in order to check for suspicious activities; this process can become time consuming if your class exceeds 100 students.
Respondus Monitor works best when used alongside Lockdown Browser. This browser prevents students from copying and pasting, taking screenshots, accessing other programs on their computers during an assessment, accessing cell phones or tablets when the browser is turned off, as well as keeping cell phones and tablets out of reach when turned off – though in unmonitored environments such as homes it won’t stop them accessing these devices!
Respondus Monitor goes beyond simply recording webcam footage to also gather additional data about each session such as mouse, keyboard and screen activity; whether or not an Internet connection drops during an exam session; as well as student location data. Furthermore, Respondus automatically detects whether other people enter the video frame during an examination, as well as whether any individuals other than those starting the examination have taken part.
Respondus Monitor records all information according to EU GDPR regulations, so only instructors may access it during an exam session. Students can obtain more details regarding Respondus Monitor’s privacy policy through student support FAQs.
