Respondus Lockdown Browser is a custom browser designed to secure testing environments within Blackboard. It prevents students from visiting other URLs or switching applications while taking tests or taking screenshots and copying questions from them. Respondus Monitor records students during proctored exams via webcam recording technology.
Before taking a proctored test, students must install the Respondus Lockdown Browser download on their computers and perform one installation session only. It’s simple and fast – only needs to be done once!

To use the software, students require a device equipped with either an internal or external webcam as well as Internet access. They can connect from either campus or off, with MASON Wi-Fi or eduroam providing access. For optimal results, positioning of furniture or objects shouldn’t obstructing it from working optimally – iOS and Android mobile devices also work just as well!

Installation
Installation is straightforward and only needs to be performed once. Students should ensure they have installed the latest version of Respondus Lockdown Browser and closed all other applications prior to beginning an exam. Once your exam is completed, you can leave the RLDB browser and return to your regular work environment – though keep in mind that RLDB may prevent accessing other websites or applications until your exam has been graded by its administrator. Furthermore, if using an eduroam wireless network before taking an exam is highly advised.
