Accessibility

Respondus Lockdown Browser Download DCCCD is a tool designed to stop students from accessing prohibited resources during an online assessment, such as laptops, cell phones, books and nearby people. It resides on each student’s machine and is managed largely from within Canvas; students can download it from New Mexico State University Respondus Lockdown Browser install page on either Windows, Mac or Chromebook computers and follow the setup guide available there for easier setup process.

UNT Dallas has developed additional tools to supplement the security provided by Respondus Lockdown Browser, including Respondus Monitor and Respondus Instructor Live Proctoring. Both add layers of security that serve to discourage academic dishonesty. Both tools integrate seamlessly with the UNT Dallas Respondus quiz tool to prevent cheating during online assessments; additionally, instructors can increase security by monitoring student webcams during exams using advanced artificial intelligence that monitors for suspicious behaviors.

Security

Respondus Lockdown Browser, a test-taking browser designed to protect students while taking assessments, keeps students from printing, copying or going to another URL without authorization during assessment sessions. Furthermore, Respondus Monitor and Respondus Instructor Live Proctoring enable instructors to track student usage of these resources during examination sessions.

Both Respondus Monitor and Lockdown Browser tools are integrated with Canvas LMS quiz tool, making their use seamless for instructors. Installing either tool doesn’t require downloading; setup can typically be managed from within Canvas itself. UNT Dallas Office of Distance Learning and Instructional Technology has resource materials to assist instructors with setting up either Respondus Monitor or Respondus Lockdown Browser.

Respondus Monitor utilizes state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) to flag questionable behaviors during exam sessions. Instructors can view either all video footage of students or only flagged sections to ascertain if there has been any violation or not.

Time-Sensitive Assessments

Respondus LockDown Browser makes testing time-sensitive assessments more efficient by blocking students from accessing any extraneous resources such as laptops, cell phones, books or people near them during an exam – including searching the internet or checking email or social media accounts nearby. Instructors may add specific resources as prohibited during their assessments if needed.

Respondus LockDown Browser is required for online exams within Canvas (Canvas “Classic” quizzes and Blackboard Learn quizzes). Students taking these types of assessments may download it through links provided by their institution or instructor and follow an installation procedure which takes only minutes per device – you can even watch a short video showing this process here!

Respondus Monitor is an add-on for Respondus LockDown Browser that adds an extra layer of security for students taking online exams. Working alongside its main feature, Respondus LockDown Browser, it detects questions which are likely to be answered incorrectly by using state-of-the-art AI to analyze an exam session and flag any elements which could possibly pose as risks; instructors are then instructed to view those parts during proctoring session.

Reporting

Respondus Monitor or Respondus Instructor Live Proctoring allows instructors to monitor student use of resources during online assessments with Respondus Monitor or Respondus Instructor Live Proctoring. These tools work hand in hand with Canvas LMS quiz tool and add layers of security that may prevent academic dishonesty by monitoring for items that violate exam environment regulations, such as laptops, cell phones, books or any nearby people that could act as distractions during exams.

UNT Dallas has developed Respondus Lockdown Browser applications (Windows or Mac), as well as Chromebook extensions which make setting up and managing assessments simple within Canvas, including Respondus Monitor Live Proctoring and Respondus Instructor Live Proctoring capabilities. Both resources feature printable materials to level the playing field for all students regardless of device or system capabilities.
