Respondus Live Chat

Respondus Live Chat provides students with a quick and efficient way to address issues with their webcam, microphone and internet connectivity. Students can access it from the “Help Center” and “It’s Not Working” links in the pre-exam startup steps.

Respondus Terms of Use cover this service, so be sure to include them in your quiz instructions or include a link on your course website for easy reference.

Help Center & System Check

Respondus Monitor offers its students a “Help Center” feature to quickly troubleshoot technical issues on their computer and open support tickets if necessary. Simply click the Help Center button in your browser toolbar for this helpful feature, which offers webcam checking, system checks and knowledge base access directly through its system. Students may even access their institution’s support team directly.

Additionally to its Help Center, the system also offers students the ability to connect with a live chat agent if they experience issues that might impede their test taking experience. Students can share their screen during chats and get assistance from agents available 24-7 who are online to answer any queries that arise during test taking.

Respondus Lockdown Browser/Respondus Monitor ensures students cannot print, copy, browse to another website, or access other applications on their computer while taking an exam. They won’t even be able to close it until submitted for grade submission by their instructor if this browser is necessary for testing purposes.

Once students log into Canvas and launch the test in their browsers, they’ll notice it requires Respondus Monitor app to function properly. After opening it, images will appear across the top of their window to indicate if their device passed all required checks – any failure displaying as red Xs; next the app performs additional tests including bandwidth/latency tests as well as OS information gathering/list of running applications analysis etc.

If any of the tests fail, a red X will appear in that section of the window and an explanation for why will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. When completed, results of System Check will be displayed on-screen with a summary sent directly to student email addresses.

Those whose tests pass can click “Return to Course,” before continuing their exam. If any test failed, students can also submit their results directly to their support team or search the new Lockdown Browser knowledge base, as well as create a ticket with Respondus. By selecting Create a Support Ticket they’ll be taken directly to a page tailored specifically for their issue in their browser and given access to its full Knowledge Base on Respondus; once activated this link will remain available for up to 30 days before it needs regenerating again; once activated it will return right away and be delivered right back into their inbox again!

Pre-Exam Startup Sequence

The Pre-Exam Startup Sequence feature enables instructors to choose events they would like students to experience prior to starting a Monitor webcam session (please refer to “Description of Options” section for details). Certain events allow instructors to edit text that appears for students such as requiring headset or allowing another application to use microphone, etc.

Respondus Monitor makes sure students only access learning resources while taking an exam; instant messaging, social media sites and any distracting websites such as instant messenger are blocked to prevent cheating from leaking in unintentionally during online exams. Respondus also prevents them from accessing other devices or using webcam or microphone communication with others to collaborate unwittingly on projects with friends or colleagues during tests – eliminating opportunities for collusion during tests!

Instructors can prevent cheating by mandating that all students connect via wired (ethernet) connection when taking online exams with Respondus Monitor, helping avoid the possibility of lags and intermittent crashes caused by wireless connections. To enable this feature, simply check “Require ethernet connection for online exams” on the Advanced Settings page.

Once a student is connected to the internet via ethernet, they can take an exam. If any issues beyond their control arise – for instance a slow or intermittent connection or Lockdown Browser not loading properly – they can contact an agent via the Respondus Support Center chat function for help.

Respondus Monitor allows instructors to review video recordings of exams proctored using its technology at a later time, so as to detect any suspicious behaviors which might have taken place during them – such as students looking away from the camera, or entering frame unexpectedly. Respondus’ patent-pending technology analyzes this data at two levels: flags and milestones – before comparing it against similar events from its database for possible signs of cheating.

Respondus Monitor stands out from other remote live proctoring solutions by being integrated seamlessly with Canvas LMS, so students access assessments through their learning systems while instructors manage everything from one convenient place. No scheduling sessions in advance; instead everything takes place within one browser window for added convenience for both students and instructors. Its plugin supports many popular learning systems including Blackboard, Schoology Pearson MyLab and McGraw Hill ALEKS – plus its response times exceed those offered by competitors such as ProctorU!

Help Desk

Respondus provides more than just an integrated Help Center and system check – they also offer 24/7 live chat support for students using Respondus Monitor webcam proctoring feature (commonly known as Respondus Proctor). Students can access this service during either pre-exam “Startup Sequence”, webcam/microphone check launch steps or at any point during their work process to launch webcam/microphone checks – such as when troubleshooting steps are not working or commencing chat session with respondus proctoring service provider Respondus Monitor monitor proctored webcam/microphone checks are taken before commencing chat sessions between tutor and student and respondus Monitor Proctor service provided to respondus Proctor service users!

Respondus Monitor servers may become overwhelmed in rare instances where thousands of students begin an exam at once, prompting a queuing system and showing each student an indicator showing when their proctoring session will begin. Most often this period should last less than two minutes.

Respondus Monitor makes use of a student’s webcam to record assessment sessions to combat academic dishonesty. It enables instructors to administer online assessments without proctors present, and ensures that only the student taking the test can access his or her computer during testing sessions.

Students should become acquainted with Respondus by reading through its student guide and watching an explanation video about its operation at SDSU. Instructors should consider mandating Respondus use in their courses; faculty wishing to do so must notify and gain approval from their Dean’s office and receive training on both its test software and monitor from ITS.

Respondus Monitor not only prevents cheating but can also record videos of an exam experience and generate reports detailing test performance; such as whether the student attempted an item, answered incorrectly or failed to complete their assessment. Such data is invaluable when it comes to evaluating student work and providing feedback on assessments.

Respondus Monitor requires the use of webcam and microphone in order to function, though not all computers come equipped with them. Even if they exist, there may be instances in which they do not work as intended or become deactivated by accident. Before taking an exam using Respondus Monitor, students should ensure their camera and microphone are functional with adequate lighting sources and remove any programs which drain battery power or take up bandwidth (e.g. Netflix, Zoom or Hulu). Furthermore, students should allow sufficient time to download and install Respondus Lockdown Browser/Monitor before their exam starts as otherwise the system may fail to detect that you have it installed – in which case your exam won’t start at all.
