Respondus is a software solution used for proctoring online exams and helping prevent all forms of cheating during online tests. Respondus utilizes various techniques for detecting cheating during an examination such as monitoring eye movement tracking and audio and video detection to detect instances of any potential cheating during an exam session.
The software comes equipped with a special browser designed to prevent other apps or programs from being used during an exam, making it available on Mac and PC devices and compatible with most learning management systems such as Blackboard Learn and Canvas.
How to download Respondus?
Many instructors utilize Respondus Lockdown Browser to increase the security of online tests for students. The browser locks down computers to prevent students from accessing other programs or websites during a test, including respondus itself. If your instructor requires Respondus for you, installation should only take minutes; simply login to Canvas and click on the quiz that needs it and click “Download Respondus Lockdown Browser” before beginning installation.
Once you click the link, you will be asked for information such as your institution name, local support contact details and license password. After entering this data, click Next and complete the install process. After the software has been successfully installed on your computer, be sure to reboot it as well as close any background programs running concurrently.

Respondus provides instructors with tools that enable them to easily create and administer quizzes, exams, and assessments for their courses. With these tools, instructors can add different question types – multiple choice questions, true/false, essay; add timer and scorer features that track results automatically per attempt and create reports displaying average scores per response attempt.
Respondus software requires students to first create an account on its website before downloading and accessing it on their computers. After creating their account, students can then use it for quizzes or exams in Canvas courses before signing out and returning to normal settings after completion.
As soon as students log into Canvas, they will see a module called “Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor” in the Commons.
