Respondus provides an online proctoring solution with many features. Students can take exams from home with a webcam and locked browser, all while being monitored by faculty to ensure testing integrity. Students receive recordings of their testing session that faculty can review; Respondus software detects multiple attempts, screen captures, suspicious behavior such as screen shots being captured during testing sessions that help instructors determine whether students are engaging in any cheating activities – helping instructors decide whether cheating exists. Furthermore, Respondus has been used by institutions in over 12 countries around the world while remaining free for instructors. Respondus software has also become used by institutions in 12+ countries worldwide!

Respondus provides two products for online proctoring: LockDown Browser and Monitor. LockDown Browser is a custom browser that restricts students’ abilities to print, copy, go to another URL or access other applications while taking an assessment. Monitor allows institutions to record assessment sessions from student computers using webcams without leaving their learning management system.

Both tools are easy to set up, use, and troubleshoot; compatible with most PC and Mac computers (including tablets). Instructors can enable these tools either in their course’s navigation menu or an individual quiz; it is strongly advised that students install Respondus well in advance of exams in order to test out any technical issues prior to sitting for exams. Instructors may direct students to take an ungraded, Respondus-enabled practice quiz before any course assessment that requires Respondus; this practice quiz should have unlimited attempts and no end date; it should remain available throughout their semester of course assessment.

The software integrates seamlessly with learning systems like Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Schoology Pearson MyLab and McGraw Hill ALEKS. After an easy installation, this tool launches in student browsers whenever assessments require it and guides students through a pre-exam sequence that includes webcam verification before testing begins. After each exam has taken place, instructors can review flagged events or data collected through our monitoring system while also reviewing video recordings stored for up to five years depending on retention policy at their institution.

Easy to use

Instructors should ensure their students are familiar with Respondus before assigning quizzes or exams using it, to avoid problems like installation failure and technical difficulties during exams. Furthermore, instructors should provide students with access to technology resources available during an exam in the Activities & Assessments tab under “Respondus LockDown Browser.”
