QS World University Rankings has awarded MIT the top position in 11 disciplines for 2025, the organization revealed today.

The Institute attained a No. 1 position in the subsequent QS subject categories: Chemical Engineering; Civil and Structural Engineering; Computer Science and Information Systems; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Linguistics; Materials Science; Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering; Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy; and Statistics and Operational Research.

Additionally, MIT secured the second place in seven subject areas: Accounting and Finance; Architecture/Built Environment; Biological Sciences; Business and Management Studies; Chemistry; Earth and Marine Sciences; and Economics and Econometrics.

In the year 2024, universities were assessed across 55 specific subjects as well as five broader categories. MIT achieved the No. 1 ranking in the wider category of Engineering and Technology and the second place in Natural Sciences.

The annual subject rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds Limited aim to assist prospective students in discovering the leading institutions in their desired fields of study. These rankings are based on the quality and impact of research, academic reputation, and graduate employability.

For 13 consecutive years, MIT has been recognized as the No. 1 university globally by QS World University Rankings.
