Florida State University announces a public statement regarding intended rises in student fees effective Fall 2025. Information about the suggested fee hikes can be found at https://tuition.fsu.edu/proposed-tuition-and-fees.
The FSU Board of Trustees will review the proposal during its meeting at 3:30 p.m. on June 12, 2025 (the schedule of meetings is subject to alteration). Please keep an eye on the Board of Trustees website for any updates regarding meeting dates and times at https://trustees.fsu.edu/meetings.
Justification and Allocation of Funds
-
Activity & Service Fee – Finances programs and organizations that encourage connectivity, engagement, and individual development, including the Student Government Association, the Student Union, Student Engagement, and Campus Recreation. The last adjustment occurred over a decade ago. These programs/organizations can no longer maintain current student services without receiving a revenue increase. The additional funds will tackle a decade of escalating costs attributed to inflation and mandated minimum wage boosts. Moreover, the funds will address new services requested by students.
-
Health Fee – Supports University Health Services (UHS) and Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS). The last adjustment was over ten years ago. These programs/organizations can no longer sustain current student services without an increase in revenue. The additional funding will be allocated to mitigating a decade of growing expenses due to inflation and mandated minimum wage increments. Furthermore, these funds will aid in addressing new services students have requested.
-
Athletics Fee – Augments the University’s Athletics programs, including operations, security, and compliance. The last rise occurred over ten years ago. Athletics can no longer maintain existing student services without an increase in revenue. The additional funds will be utilized to tackle a decade of increasing expenses caused by inflation, federal legislation, and necessary minimum wage hikes.
-
Transportation Access Fee – Finances the construction, improvements, and postponed maintenance of campus parking facilities/areas. Additionally, it funds city and campus bus services and access to campus parking and walkways. The last increase was over ten years ago. Transportation and Parking Services can no longer support current student services without a revenue boost. The additional funds will address a decade of rising expenses due to inflation and the accumulation of deferred maintenance on existing facilities. Moreover, the increase will fund the planning, design, and construction of a new garage on the Northwest side of the Main Campus.
Statement of Support from the Student Government Association
As students of Florida State University, we are fortunate to attend one of the leading universities in the nation, also noted for its affordability. We take pride in our institution’s capacity to utilize student-funded resources effectively; indeed, we have received recognition for this for many years through national standards. However, after more than a decade without a fee adjustment, as budgets increasingly face pressure from inflation, it is critical for us to reinvest in the success of our university with renewed funding commitments.
With this modest fee increase, departments within Athletics, Health, and Activities and Services will gain additional financial resources. These funds will enable the university to maintain and elevate FSU’s student experience, already one of the finest in the nation. We acknowledge that higher fees are typically unwelcome, but this proposal was made in conjunction with the Local Fees Committee to enhance student success and the value of degrees during and after our time at Florida State University. We appreciate your support.
In compliance with state legislation, this notification is being sent to all enrolled students via email.
