President Garimella’s initial yearly correspondence: U of A is ‘dynamic, robust and prepared for a luminous future’

University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella has unveiled his initial yearly letter to the university community, contemplating his inaugural year at the helm of the institution and presenting priorities for the future.
“I have been invigorated by the manner in which we united to develop a strong vision for the future through our strategic imperatives, Delivering on Our Promise,” Garimella stated. “We have made daring commitments to our students, advancing knowledge and innovation, as well as our land-grant mission of involvement, each facet showcasing the university’s unique excellence, our connection to the locale, and our pledge as a global force for good.”
In the correspondence, Garimella underscores that student achievement remains the university’s guiding principle, steering every decision and investment. He points out financial stability achieved by removing the budget deficit without increasing tuition for Arizona undergraduates, record research growth exceeding $1 billion, with a projected 3.5% rise for FY 2025, and engagement across all 15 counties and with 22 Native Nations. He further mentions the excellence of faculty and students, success in athletics, and an upcoming announcement of a $20 million donation to enhance study abroad opportunities.
“As the U of A flourishes, so does Arizona,” Garimella remarked. “The resilience I have witnessed over the past 11 months, the excellence that characterizes the U of A, and the profound support we receive from our community will enable us to prosper. We will persist in deepening our roots and broadening our horizons. We will continue to discover and innovate. And we will keep finding a shared sense of purpose and collective mission as we strive to fulfill our promise as Arizona’s keystone institution.”
