Captivating Moments at the Thurtene Carnival

What: The Thurtene Festival, a carnival organized by WashU students, makes its return to the campus this weekend featuring fresh attractions, exciting performances, and enhanced safety protocols.

Guests are encouraged to leave their bags behind. Individuals under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Featured activities encompass carnival rides, interactive games, and a turkey leg eating contest scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5. Student organizations will offer a variety of delectable delights ranging from fried treats (fried Oreos, funnel cakes, beignets), to global favorites (egg tarts, street tacos, Italian ice), and classic fair foods (burgers, cotton candy, pickles). Performers from the student body will include the Bear Nation Varsity Band, the WU Sauce salsa dance troupe, the Kendo martial arts club, along with vocal ensembles such as the Evergreens, Staam, the Aristocats, and More Fools than Wise. Attendees can enjoy the company of WashU comfort dogs Bear and Brookie, and meet dogs available for adoption through Stray Rescue at the “Doghouse.” For additional details regarding this year’s carnival, check out The Source.

When: From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 4, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6.

Where: Adjacent to Francis Olympic Field at WashU.

How much: Entry is complimentary; parking is free after 5 p.m. on Friday and accessible all day Saturday and Sunday.
