Nsu Respondus Lockdown Browser

Your instructor may require that you use Respondus Lockdown Browser and a webcam as part of proctoring – this will be noted on your course syllabus as “Required Integrity and Identity Proctored Activity.”

LockDown Browser protects students during online assessments by restricting them from printing, copying, visiting another URL or accessing any applications other than those required for assessment. Available both for Windows and Mac.

What is Respondus?

Nsu Respondus Lockdown Browser is an online proctoring tool used to protect student privacy and identity during online exams. Using powerful analytics, this software detects suspicious behavior and records an exam session for review by instructors. Exam sessions exhibiting possible test violations are flagged for review by instructors with an overall risk level assigned per session so instructors can quickly detect any possible instances of cheating; additionally it offers quick turnaround of video segments marked as violating these criteria.

Respondus software requires that students possess a webcam for use. This can either be built into their computer, or an independent device plugged in with USB. A browser can be downloaded from Pearson website. Before taking any tests that utilize Respondus, students should familiarize themselves with its use; there is an introduction video and quick start guide on this page that can assist.

Once the browser is installed, students in BlazeVIEW courses using Respondus systems for proctoring will have an opportunity to take a non-graded practice quiz using Respondus LockDown Browser and webcam proctoring – giving them an opportunity to familiarize themselves with technology used during course assessments while solving any potential issues before their actual assessment date.

VSU suggests creating a non-graded practice quiz in your BlazeVIEW course using Respondus as proctoring software and instructing students to take it. It should allow unlimited attempts and remain open throughout the semester to give students an experience using Respondus before their course assessments take place.

NSU hosts a free “Flexible Testing” webinar each semester for instructors that covers common testing scenarios at colleges and how Respondus can increase proctoring flexibility for online courses. Instructors are encouraged to share this information with their students. If you would like to participate, contact your campus Learning Center Coordinator.

How do I use Respondus?

Many courses require students to take exams in either the NSU Testing Center, ProctorU or Respondus Monitor online platforms. If your instructor requires Respondus as your testing option, be sure that you have compatible devices available as well as sufficient funds available should the exam fee apply; refer back to the NSU Testing Center website for assistance and guidance if required.

Instructors assigning exams that utilize Respondus should assign a non-graded practice quiz as part of the assignment, so students may become acquainted with its software prior to taking an official assessment exam and can help prevent technical issues that might surface during testing. Instructors should set this quiz with unlimited attempts so students may utilize it throughout the semester.

Once students are assigned an exam that requires Respondus, they can follow these steps to download and install Respondus browser:

LockDown Browser requires students to log into their learning system and locate the course where their quiz resides, click “Take the Quiz,” which will launch Respondus Browser and won’t allow them to close it until their quiz is submitted.

Students experiencing issues while using the LockDown Browser during exams can contact Respondus for technical support by using the Help Center button on the browser toolbar or searching the knowledge base. Our Support team is on-hand during testing sessions to offer real-time assistance and offer solutions.

Students can quickly check for the latest version of a browser by clicking on the “Help” icon in their browser toolbar and using “Verify Update” button to see if there is a newer version available. If it is not, follow instructions for reinstalling and contact Help Desk if they can’t resolve issue themselves. NSU also provides free tutoring services for student athletes through Athletic Academic Center Academic Advisors who can arrange appointments with tutors.

What are the system requirements for Respondus?

Respondus system requirements for students include taking their proctored assessments on either a PC (Windows or Mac OSX is not supported) with working webcam, and having Windows or Mac operating system and updated browser software installed. When taking an ALEKS assessment that utilizes Respondus Monitor, your instructor may provide a non-graded “Practice Quiz” to familiarize yourself with its processes – these quizzes often utilize various question types that give an idea of how such assessments might function within Canvas.

Respondus Monitor requires your browser to support HTML5. Furthermore, high-speed Internet connectivity must also be available – for this purpose the Respondus website offers a link which allows you to check compatibility.

This software captures video from each student’s webcam during an exam, enabling instructors to verify that he or she is present and not looking away or accessing other resources during assessment sessions. This method has proven highly effective at deterring cheating and test tampering in proctored settings.

Respondus monitor provides recording capabilities as well as powerful analytics to detect suspicious behavior during an exam session. For instance, if a student moves around excessively in the room or looks away from the screen too frequently, Respondus monitor can alert an instructor of these actions and assign an overall risk level for that exam session. If an instructor determines that such behaviors indicate unacceptable risks to retaking an assessment under supervision.

If you experience issues during installation or operation of LockDown Browser or Monitor, its built-in Help Center can be reached from the browser toolbar. In addition, NMSU Respondus Technical Support Knowledgebase offers troubleshooting suggestions.

If you own a Chromebook, taking an ALEKS practice quiz will prompt you to download a special version of ALEKS software which can help take your assessment. Unlike its regular browser counterpart, this one doesn’t rely on Google Chrome; furthermore, its installation won’t interfere with existing installations or be overridden.

What are the course requirements for Respondus?

Respondus LockDown Browser is an application students download and use during online exams, to deter cheating. Students can access Respondus from PCs or Macs as well as iPads (though access via an iPad requires additional setup by your instructor). If your course requires you to take proctored exams in D2L, be prepared with Respondus: you will require either a laptop (Macbook is not compatible) with Safari installed and working webcam; otherwise speak to your instructor about borrowing one from MSC.

Respondus Monitor extends LockDown Browser by allowing students to take unscheduled, online assessments using mobile devices such as phones or tablets running iOS, Android or Windows operating systems. Students require either an external or internal webcam as well as access to an operating system compatible with Respondus Monitor during an assessment session and it will guide them through requirements set out by an instructor, such as showing identification or briefly recording their examination environment.

Students can access both of these tools within the Modules section of their Canvas courses, with each providing its own set of resources and instructions. It is strongly suggested that instructors provide students with links to relevant resources during the first week of semester.

Additionally, it may be beneficial for students to access a non-graded practice quiz with Respondus settings similar to their course assessments, with unlimited attempts and open throughout the semester for troubleshooting any technical issues before taking their assessments.
