The OneMIT Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 1 at 3:00 P.M. on Killian Court, which is situated off Memorial Drive. This year’s keynote speaker is Mark Rober.
Rober, an engineer from NASA who has transitioned to internet stardom, runs a YouTube channel that champions creativity, persistence, and the thrill of education. His videos merge scientific discovery with amusement and concentrate on playful subjects – notable examples include “Egg Drop From Space” and “Can You Swim in Jell-O?” – achieving 23 million subscribers and over 3 billion views. Rober founded CrunchLabs, which produces educational kits for toy-making designed to inspire children to think like engineers; he also provides various online courses covering science and engineering subjects. Recently, Rober collaborated with fellow YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, utilizing their influential platforms in efforts against climate change.
Sally Kornbluth, President of MIT, will give the customary address to graduates. The complete graduation ceremony will be streamed live at www.mit.edu.
The OneMIT Graduation Ceremony aims to honor all members of the Class of 2023, encompassing all undergraduate and graduate cohorts. Besides President Kornbluth’s address and Rober’s speech, the OneMIT event will feature MIT’s traditional academic procession along with the turning of the Brass Rat.
