The OneMIT Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. on Killian Court, situated off Memorial Drive. This year’s keynote speaker is MIT graduate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala MCP ’78, PhD ’81, the director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and former finance minister of Nigeria. A specialist in global finance, economics, and international development, Okonjo-Iweala is the inaugural woman and first African to head the WTO. Renowned for her negotiation skills and ability to build consensus, she has committed her career to assisting developing nations in achieving substantial economic progress and sustainable development. Okonjo-Iweala earned a master’s degree in city planning from MIT in 1978 and a PhD in regional economics and development from MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning in 1981.
MIT President L. Rafael Reif will provide the customary charge to graduates. The entire graduation event will be streamed live at www.mit.edu.
The OneMIT Graduation Ceremony will honor all members of the Class of 2022, encompassing all undergraduate and graduate cohorts. Alongside President Reif’s address to graduates and a speech from Okonjo-Iweala, the OneMIT ceremony will also feature MIT’s customary academic procession and the turning of the Brass Rat.
