Lockdown Browser For Windows 10
Lockdown browser is an online exam program that enables students to take tests at home while eliminating paper usage and speeding grading time. Furthermore, its anti-cheat features enable it to prevent cheating by blocking programs allowing access to other screens as well as restricting copy-paste commands and copy/paste commands.
Before taking an online test, it is recommended to temporarily disable antivirus and third-party security applications as these could interfere with the browser and cause it to freeze or crash.

Installing the Lockdown Browser requires administrator privileges on your computer; its installer requires system-level changes that only an administrator can carry out. After you have obtained them, run the installation file and follow its prompts to complete installation; once complete, it will launch whenever required quizzes in your LMS are clicked upon.
Once your Lockdown Browser is installed, it’s time to begin taking exams. First open a standard web browser like Chrome or Firefox, log into your LMS, navigate to an assignment which requires Respondus LockDown Browser installation and click its Launch LockDown Browser button – found at the bottom-right corner of quiz summary pages.
Once you click the Launch LockDown Browser button, a popup will appear asking whether you wish to allow the LockDown Browser app to be launched on the machine. Note that Windows 10 S mode prevents installation; however, other operating systems including Linux and Windows 10 support this browser. It is always recommended to read the installation instructions prior to using any tool; additionally installing the latest version ensures it runs properly – particularly important if attempting high stakes tests or exams with this tool.
Setting up
The software contains an artificial intelligence feature to detect patterns in student behavior that might indicate cheating. Furthermore, there are features which prevent students from printing or accessing other websites while the test is in progress – all features which help maintain its integrity and give faculty peace of mind that online testing is being administered fairly.
Respondus Lockdown Browser is available for both PCs and Mac computers, with installation on Chromebooks only with prior arrangements from their instructor. Each copy of a course that utilizes Respondus must also update this software regularly to maintain functionality.
Students must install any necessary programs on their computers prior to taking a quiz that requires it, by clicking on the download link that appears when clicking on an LMS quiz and following its link; or their instructor can add one in their exam instructions. Any programs not directly relevant should also be closed (i.e. instant messengers and screen capture programs).
As with taking any exam in LockDown Browser, an Ethernet (hardwired) Internet connection should be preferred when taking exams in LockDown Browser. Wireless and USB modem connections have more of an opportunity of interfering with Canvas server connections during an exam than wired Ethernet – potentially leading to lost responses or responses not receiving their proper processing time.
Although hacking this browser’s security system is possible, the effort required would likely outweigh any risk associated with being caught cheating in an assessment. Students smart enough to create workarounds for security software probably also possess sufficient intelligence to study hard and pass their test legitimately.
Students using Chromebooks should ensure they install the proper version of software to avoid compatibility issues with various operating systems and hardware configurations. Instructors should ensure their students download and update to the correct version prior to each course copy that includes tests/exams with RLDB.
Troubleshooting
When your laptop’s internet connection becomes unstable, the browser may become inoperable. This issue could be due to several causes – weak wireless signal, network traffic congestion or virus on the computer – among them an Ethernet connection as close as possible to the router or modem; rebooting and shutting down other programs might help; otherwise it may be due to pop-up windows which have yet to be addressed; you should then be able to reopen the browser after addressing all pop-up security windows that may have appeared.
Computer-based testing is rapidly growing in educational environments. It offers many benefits for both students and instructors, including its speedy administration of tests. But getting started may be challenging without access to appropriate equipment – that’s why it is wise to provide your students with a short non-graded practice exam first – this way if any issues arise, they can seek assistance from their instructor for assistance.
At LockDown Browser software is it also essential that students’ computers are compatible. To check compatibility you can check the version number. An easy way of doing so is opening your browser and selecting “About” on its toolbar before clicking “Check for Update.” This will show what version of browser they currently are running as well as allow you to download an upgrade if necessary.
Another potential problem can arise when courses are imported from previous semesters and their instructors fail to access Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard before students access exams that require it.
If you are running a third-party antivirus program on your PC, it may cause interference with Lockdown Browser. Antivirus programs often block some features of Lockdown Browser which make accessing certain pages difficult. To address this issue, disable all antivirus software and relaunch the browser – this may work better!
Removing
Having trouble with Respondus LockDown Browser? It could be related to other programs on your PC; antiviruses, VPNs and malware can interfere with its functionality and may be interfering. Try temporarily uninstalling these applications to see if that fixes it; otherwise use an uninstaller service for complete removal of all traces.
Before attempting to uninstall software, ensure you’re logged on as an administrator account. This will help ensure a smooth experience when uninstalling through Windows Control Panel or using a third-party uninstaller.
Another likely cause for browser issues could be related to an unstable Internet connection. A slow or intermittent connection can impede on taking exams, potentially freezing up browsers or even leading them to crash – this is why Ethernet connections should always be used when taking exams.
Before beginning to browse, ensure all applications on your computer have been closed down, particularly those using the Internet like file sharing agents like Bittorent or instant messenger apps that may obstruct its operation. Such programs are more likely to interfere with the browser than others.
If you are having difficulty using Respondus LockDown Browser during a test, it’s essential that you understand how to overcome these challenges. One effective method would be contacting your instructor for guidance – this will allow you to return on track quickly while reducing time wasted trying to solve problems beyond your knowledge base.
