latest-data-&-ai-in-society-lecture-poses-the-question:-will-workers-be-needed-in-the-future?

NOTICE OF EVENT

DATE: 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10

OCCASION: The integration of artificial intelligence is already transforming the workplace, with a rising number of organizations implementing systems to manage more tasks. In what ways will human labor adapt as integration continues, and what implications will this have on how individuals make a living?

Will the economy characterized by winner-take-most dynamics from previous decades persist, exacerbating inequality, or could AI serve as a significant equalizer? Although many questions remain unanswered, economist Betsey Stevenson from the University of Michigan will share perspectives on lessons we can derive from history, what we are witnessing in the present, and what might constitute the optimal path ahead for both earnings and human prosperity.

Stevenson has previously served as the chief economist of the U.S. Department of Labor and as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers under the Obama administration. Her research examines women’s experiences in the labor market, the economic forces shaping contemporary family dynamics, and the mutual influence between labor market conditions and family economics.
