University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce today revealed the appointment of Joe Dacca as vice president for the UW Office of External Affairs, effective July 2.

Dacca, a graduate of UW who has worked as the Director for State Relations for the past nine years, succeeds Randy Hodgins, who is set to retire.

“Joe’s proficiency in advocacy, his profound knowledge of the region’s policy environment, and his dedication to fostering robust connections both within and beyond the University position him exceptionally well to assume this new responsibility at this pivotal moment,” Cauce stated. “His guidance is especially important for the University during a time of leadership change and an increasingly intricate political climate.”

Dacca’s professional journey exemplifies a commitment to public service. Before joining UW, he held the position of federal District Director for former U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer (D-Port Angeles), served as Deputy District Director for former U.S. Representative Norm Dicks (D-Bremerton), and worked as a legislative aide in the Washington State Senate.

“I appreciate President Cauce for granting me the chance to serve my beloved university in this significant position, and I am privileged to continue collaborating with the skilled and passionate External Affairs team,” Dacca remarked. “Building on the groundwork laid by Vice President Randy Hodgins, we will strive to enhance partnerships both within and beyond the University and work together to promote the UW’s vibrant, public-oriented mission.”

Morgan Hickel will take on the role of Interim Director of State Relations beginning July 1.
