Innovative Nursing Bra Clip System Earns U.S. Patent for Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship Professor

Jessica Ridgway Clayton, the Carol Avery Professor and Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies at the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship (JMC), has been awarded a U.S. patent for her groundbreaking nursing bra clip system that supports breastfeeding mothers.

Ridgway’s pioneering product is intended to facilitate a more convenient and relaxed experience for mothers during breastfeeding. The Clip System can be integrated into any nursing bra design, with the invention representing a key aspect of Ridgway’s research centered around innovative designs that assist mothers and infants.

“The Clip System aids a mother by keeping her shirt elevated while she breastfeeds,” Ridgway remarked regarding her innovation. “Moms frequently tuck their shirts beneath their chins while attempting to feed their babies, which creates an awkward and uncomfortable chin-to-chest posture. The Clip System enables mothers to adopt a more relaxed and comfortable stance, offers an unobstructed view of the baby’s mouth, and keeps the shirt out of the way hands-free.”

Ridgway, collaborating with the FSU Office of Commercialization, is looking for industry collaborators to launch the Clip System in the marketplace. Ridgway aims to establish this technology as a new industry benchmark and make it accessible to all mothers.
