Mongolian traditional music possesses a captivating, unique tone — exuberantly spinning fiddles and profound, echoing throat singing. The prominent representatives of Inner Mongolian melodies globally, the nine members of the ensemble Anda Union will perform at Hodgson Concert Hall on April 3 at 7:30 p.m.
As Anda Union commemorates two decades of musical artistry, the group has evolved into a cultural sensation in the East. Recently crowned champions of the popular Chinese reality TV competition The Big Band, they amazed crowds by performing in their mother tongue, soaring into the spotlight and delivering their Mongolian melodies to a wide audience. Since then, Anda Union has featured in numerous advertising campaigns and headlined festivals and arenas throughout China.
The members of Anda Union all received early training in traditional Mongolian music and have become part of a revivalist movement drawing influence from classical melodies. Their enchanting harmonies and lively string instruments evoke the timeless splendor of the Mongolian open plains. Merging throat singing and long song with horse head fiddles and two-stringed lutes, they breathe life into this profound ancient music.
Anda Union offers a distinctive blend of styles from across the grasslands, merging into an extraordinary and majestic sound while honoring their cultural heritage. They have headlined numerous world music and mainstream festivals, capturing the hearts of international audiences with their compelling music.
Join fellow attendees for a pre-performance discussion in Ramsey Concert Hall from 6:45-7:15 p.m.
