To Our Students, Faculty, and Staff:
We recognize this is a trying period for all. Over the past few days, we have navigated numerous intricate and demanding challenges. Your understanding during this time is greatly valued. We are now sharing updated options for the conclusion of the semester.
It is our aim for everyone to obtain the assistance and resources they require. For certain students, this might indicate not returning to in-person classes. Conversely, for others, the sense of community and the chance to connect, alongside an opportunity to concentrate on studies, might be advantageous. There is no universal solution applicable to all.
Although classes will commence as planned on Monday, April 21, we are offering students and faculty new alternatives. For instance, many courses will likely have a remote option; however, there will be instances where this may not be feasible (such as laboratory courses). Your instructor will share details regarding any further options related to your specific class section by Monday evening.
Students: If you opt not to participate in classes this week, we completely understand. The university has suspended all compulsory attendance policies that could impact your grade. A letter of endorsement from Case Management is not obligatory. Absences will be permitted by the university. If you choose to skip classes, kindly contact your instructor regarding how to fulfill any necessary coursework. Students who believe they cannot complete a course at this moment will have the option to petition for an incomplete grade.
Faculty and Instructors: A distinct email with further instructions will be sent from the provost. Please examine your course materials and provide your students the choices suitable for your class as promptly as possible, ideally before the subsequent class, but no later than Monday evening. If your class is to be delivered remotely, ensure that information is communicated as swiftly as possible via email and your Canvas course site. Please update your gradebooks at your earliest convenience to reflect the current grades students hold in the course.
Students, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your instructors next week if you have any inquiries. Following discussions with your instructors, if your circumstances remain unaccommodated, please get in touch with the Department of Student Support and Transitions at [email protected] or call 850-644-2428. We will strive to meet your needs to the best of our ability.
We appreciate your continued patience as we navigate through this challenging and demanding time collectively.
Best regards,
Richard McCullough
President
