How To Cheat Online Oral Exam
Students can avoid taking an oral examination online by employing various means to cheat – from using banned materials or impersonating someone.
Cheaters may not realize that online proctors carefully observe student environments and use keystroke analysis tools to detect suspicious typing patterns.
1. Copying
There are various methods of copying information during an online oral exam. One such way is using a scanner or printer to copy notes from another student’s paper, or taking photos with a cellphone camera of it using its wide-angle lens. Examiners and monitoring software can find it hard to detect these techniques; to avoid detection try acting normally during your test while using natural body language to show that you’re paying attention and truly engaged.
Some tech-savvy students attempt to cheat by hacking into the exam content. They use special software that presents questions as code, then identify correct answers by looking at their number of 1s and 0s. Though such cheating may be hard to detect, teachers or proctors may spot suspicious activity by monitoring keystroke patterns during an exam session and watching for changes during a student’s keyboard use.
Students try to hide their cheating by wearing hats or other articles of clothing. Some even bring alcohol wipes with them to remove any pen ink smudges from their clothing prior to an exam. Examiners can require students to remove or turn around their hats and check for writing on the bill of their hat; or ask them to remove their coats, sweaters or scarves as part of a security sweep.
Cheating can also occur by searching online or in other sources for answers to their homework assignments, which gives a false sense of accomplishment that they couldn’t have accomplished themselves. Furthermore, this practice harms other students who have put forth effort as it lowers the quality of their work.
Teachers can prevent cheating by photocopying exams, tests and major assignments before returning them to students. Teachers may also ask students to reproduce test answers in their office – if they cannot reproduce them they could have cheated! Teachers can discourage this form of cheating through alternative assessment forms like papers, discussion boards, group projects or poster sessions.
2. Writing on the Table
Students often fail to realize that online proctors are attentive of their surroundings, including when students write notes on their palms or tape them onto monitors – which could alert proctors. Therefore, some savvy students bring alcohol wipes with them for use before an exam to remove any pen ink that might make it more difficult for proctors to read them.
Writing on the table is another method students use to cheat during tests and exams that involve multiple-choice answers or have multiple-question exams. It’s simple, cheap and effective – giving students an edge against other test takers while saving both time and money in the process. Writing on tables may require extra prep, but in the long run can save both money and time when taking these exams with multiple choice answers or multiple choice questions.
Although not the safest or most efficient means of cheating, attempting to score A on every question and then intentionally missing some will help you get the grade that you desire without drawing too much attention to yourself. This tactic is especially useful if you tend to get low marks or have been striving for perfection all semester but have yet to achieve it. You could try tricking the proctors by intentionally scoring A and missing only some questions to keep your average up without drawing too much notice from their analysis of your test score averages.
Some students can even utilize computer hacking techniques to cheat during online oral exams. For instance, they can run the exam content through special software that displays it as code, making correct answers easy to identify since their sequence of 1s and 0s will match up perfectly with correct answers from a code list. Proctoring software provides protection from copying while easily verifying student identities during exams.
Oral exams provide students with an opportunity to engage in practical thinking while discouraging cheating, despite being more challenging for professors than written tests. Unfortunately, however, oral exams still present difficulties for many students with language or communication barriers who are especially prone to cheating during oral exams. To address this issue, some universities are adopting alternative assessment methods such as posters or group projects while others are working to develop technology allowing online oral exams with video, audio and chat features.
3. Taping Notes on Your Thigh
On the upside, online exam proctors tend to be more aware of cheating than their physical counterparts. With access to tools such as facial recognition and motion detection as well as recording eye movements and body language of test-takers. While students still try their luck scrawling notes or taping them onto computer monitors despite this awareness from proctors, their cheating could easily be detected and punished accordingly.
Cheaters seek ways of cheating that require more discretion, like writing notes on their thighs or using the buddy system. Writing notes on one’s thigh is particularly popular among female students wearing skirts as this allows them to lift their garment and look at notes without drawing unnecessary attention to themselves.
Hide a device capable of recording information in the background, like an MP3 player or bluetooth spy earpiece. These small and discreet devices can fit easily under clothing for use during exams without risking detection; some students even used hidden microphones during oral exams without getting caught, although that increases their risk and could result in disciplinary action against them.
Doing anything to try and cheat in an oral exam can be dangerous, including swallowing a cheat sheet which could result in choking or intestinal blockage – not to mention being caught by your teacher!
To implement this method, you’ll require a belt that snugly encases your waist. Once attached, cut a piece of paper that is slightly shorter in both height and width than the belt itself and attach it inside its loops. At an exam, use this piece of paper as an aid in writing notes; once folded over your skirt it won’t even be noticed that something’s there!
4. Taking Pictures
Most students don’t take oral exams often, and when they do it’s essential that they know the subject material intimately. Unfortunately, knowledge alone won’t get you anywhere if your ideas can’t communicated to an examiner effectively – that’s why practicing verbal answers just like any other test is key to success!
Although there may be tech-savvy cheaters out there, it’s usually easy to identify their efforts. For example, would-be cheaters may try holding their cell phones up close to the screen while typing answers online using keystroke analysis; such attempts are quite visible to proctors who can observe such activities more directly.
Cheaters also try taking pictures of the screen during an exam, which is relatively easy to detect. Most students know this and won’t engage in these practices, though some may still be unclear on how technology works.
If you are taking an online oral exam, it is imperative that no one can access your computer during the examination. You can achieve this by providing identification or passport and remaining alone in the room during all aspects of the exam – only leaving to use the toilet with approval from the host and in case of medical emergencies will you be permitted to reclaim your seat afterwards. NTNU does not permit returning after your examination has concluded.
