Zhen (Jason) He has been awarded the 2025 Frederick George Pohland Medal by the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors and the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. He holds the Laura and William Jens Professorship in energy, environmental, and chemical engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.

This distinction honors individuals who have made notable and ongoing contributions to bridging environmental engineering research, education, and practice.

His laboratory in environmental biotechnology and bioenergy investigates the convergence of microbiology, engineering, and electrochemistry. The lab aims to comprehend the microbial and electrochemical interactions within engineered systems designed for resource recovery from wastewater treatment.
