google-sues-the-badbox-botnet-operators

It will be captivating to see what unfolds from this private litigation:

On Thursday, Google declared that it has initiated legal action against the operators of the Badbox 2.0 botnet, which has compromised over 10 million devices utilizing Android open-source software.

These devices do not have Google’s security measures, and the offenders pre-installed the Badbox 2.0 malware on them, creating a backdoor to exploit them for extensive fraud and other unlawful activities.

This brings to mind Meta’s lawsuit regarding Pegasus concerning its hack-for-hire tool (which I discussed here.) It’s a private enterprise intervening in a regulatory gap left by governmental bodies.

Slashdot discussion.
