The latest inductees of the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame have transcended limits across various genres — encompassing journalism, fiction, and poetry — and all three have motivated the upcoming generation of authors through education and guidance.

The 2025 class features Tina McElroy Ansa, a novelist and the founder of DownSouth Press; Deborah Blum, a Pulitzer Prize-winning science writer; and Tony M. Grooms, a poet, novelist, and co-founder of the Georgia Writers Association. Celebratory events will take place throughout the year at the University of Georgia Special Collections Libraries in Athens to honor each of the recipients.

“In their writings, this year’s honorees of the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame possess diverse styles and methodologies, yet they unite under a shared narrative in their efforts to elevate the next wave of storytellers,” stated Katherine Stein, interim associate university librarian for special collections and director of UGA’s Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, which administers the accolade. “At the University of Georgia Libraries, we take pride in commemorating their legacies in writing, mentorship, publishing, and education.”
