Benjamin Garcia, the Raymond H. Wittcoff Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at WashU Medicine, along with his associates Zongtao (Tom) Lin and Dongwen Lyu, has been awarded a grant renewal worth $2.4 million over four years from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Lin serves as an instructor in biochemistry and molecular biophysics at WashU Medicine, whereas Lyu holds the position of assistant professor of biochemistry and structural biology at the University of Texas Health-San Antonio.

The funding will facilitate their investigation entitled “Development of Application of Chemical Biology Approaches for Understanding Protein Arginylation.”
