FSU Student Body President Re-elected to Lead Florida Student Association for Fourth Consecutive Year

For the fourth straight year, the leader of Florida State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) has been chosen to act as chair of the Florida Student Association (FSA).

Carson Dale, originally from Columbia, Missouri, was inaugurated as FSU’s 80th SGA president in April and elected FSA chair in May. As chair of the FSA, Dale holds a voting position as a seated member on the Florida Board of Governors, which regulates the State University System of Florida (SUS). He was chosen to represent all 12 of Florida’s public universities, advocating for over 430,000 students.

Dale continues the legacy of prior FSU SGA presidents Jack Hitchcock, Nimna Gabadage and Nastassia “Tazzy” Janvier by taking on these dual responsibilities.

“One of the things I’m most enthusiastic about with FSA is involving more students to assist us in lobbying for higher education and addressing issues pertinent to students,” Dale stated. “It’s a truly unique role to represent all students at the state level, on the Board of Trustees, and the Board of Governors as a 21-year-old. Learning from their experiences and understanding the keys to their life successes is thrilling.”

As president of FSU’s SGA, Dale manages a budget of almost $15.4 million and holds a voting seat on FSU’s 13-member Board of Trustees. He will fulfill both of these roles for a term of one year while maintaining a full course load during the fall and spring semesters.

Dale is studying international affairs with a focus on public administration and expects to graduate in May 2026.

Having come from the Midwest without direct connections to FSU, Dale mentioned he searched online and admired FSU’s picturesque campus and the idea of being in the state capital to follow a career in politics. He arrived in 2022 and founded the Delta Sigma Phi chapter during his freshman year. Dale is also part of the Presidential Scholars Program.

“We are extremely proud of Carson’s election as chair of the Florida Student Association and his leadership role on the Florida Board of Governors,” remarked Andy Johnson, program director of Student Governance & Advocacy under the Division of Student Affairs. “He adopts a thoughtful, cooperative approach to statewide advocacy, and we’re assured he’ll voice Florida’s students with integrity and vision.”

Dale expressed his eagerness to collaborate closely with FSA External Vice Chair Darsham Gonzalez (Florida Atlantic University) and FSA Internal Vice Chair Trista Bennett (University of West Florida).

“We have an excellent group of individuals,” Dale noted. “I feel well-supported by their support to achieve remarkable things.”

Dale’s long-term aspirations after graduation include attending law school and engaging in lobbying, with a keen interest in political consulting. In his leisure time, Dale mentioned he enjoys hiking, fishing, camping, and backpacking, in addition to attending FSU football games.
