Florida State University’s Garnet Gaming Lounge (GGL), the campus’s leading hub for PC, console, and tabletop gaming, will commemorate its official grand opening from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, at the Askew Student Life Center. The affair is complimentary and accessible to all, providing a chance to explore the lounge and enjoy its games for free.
“The Garnet Gaming Lounge is not merely about gaming; it’s about fostering a space where students and the community can unite,” stated Matthew Nelson, GGL and Esports program manager. “We’re looking forward to inviting everyone to discover this new venue and experience all it has to provide.”
The GGL is a cutting-edge facility featuring 41 high-caliber gaming PCs, a specialized tabletop gaming zone, and a blend of both contemporary and classic consoles. The lounge also acts as the home arena for the FSU Esports team, which competes on a national level in over 15 different games annually.
“This facility has been in development for years, and we’re delighted to finally open our doors,” remarked Michael Fine, associate director of the Student Union. “The Garnet Gaming Lounge symbolizes our dedication to innovation and student life at Florida State. It transcends a regular lounge; it serves as a nexus where creativity, competition, and interaction can flourish.”
The grand opening festivities will feature:
- Inaugural remarks from campus leaders
- Raffle prizes, including t-shirts and exclusive GGL merchandise
- Complimentary access to high-performance PCs and drop-in servers
- Exclusive membership giveaways and pre-sale specials
- Console competitions featuring Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart
- Esports and game committee exhibitions
