Florida State University’s Museum of Fine Arts (MoFA) has revealed its schedule of exhibitions for the 2025-2026 academic year, showcasing Indigenous relics alongside modern art, a traveling exhibit that examines the essence of humanity, a showcase of FSU’s graduating Master of Fine Arts Studio Art students, and more.
The season kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 18, with “Water Ways: Indigenous Ecologies and Florida Heritage,” delving into the relationship between communities and water. On Oct. 16, the museum will host an opening reception and artist discussion for “Akimbo,” featuring Zoë Charlton (BFA ‘95), an esteemed FSU Art alumna from Tallahassee.
“We are excited to present these forthcoming exhibitions to FSU and the broader Tallahassee community,” stated Museum Director Kaylee Spencer. “Our season embodies the distinctive creative spirit that characterizes our area and honors the robust academic collaborations that our institution fosters. There’s a great deal to anticipate.”
ART MEETS FOOTBALL
On Saturdays when the FSU football team has a home match, guests have the opportunity to engage in art activities at the museum prior to the event at Doak Campbell Stadium.
On Saturday, Sept. 20, preceding FSU’s Family Weekend football game against Kent State, students and their families are invited to visit the museum for a special kickoff event celebrating the arts and the spirit of FSU Seminoles. Activities will include screen-printing a custom MoFA flag and guided tours of the museum’s exhibitions.
A SHOWCASE THROUGH THE YEAR
In January, in collaboration with Independent Curators International, the museum will unveil “Like everything alive that we try to hold forever,” featuring works from seven artists that investigate how human bodies connect with non-human objects. Curated by Elizabeth Diggon, Naomi Potter, and Shauna Thompson, this exhibition employs photography, sculpture, and video to examine various themes related to the human experience.
MoFA’s annual “MFA Graduating Artists Showcase” opens on Friday, April 10, highlighting works by the Department of Art’s graduating studio art MFA students. Annually, the event offers insight into the artistic practices of these students and allows the Tallahassee community a chance to view their creations prior to graduation.
In May, the museum will also host the Tallahassee Watercolor Society’s annual juried exhibition, showcasing works by local watercolor artists.
Throughout the season, MoFA will present a diverse array of events aimed at engaging FSU students and the Tallahassee community, which will include art workshops, artist discussions, panel talks, and more.
