Dr. Brian Anderson, president and CEO of the Coalition for Health AI and Jing Wang, dean of the FSU College of Nursing are collaborating to deliver professional education on the ethical use of artificial intelligence in nursing.

The Florida State University College of Nursing is collaborating with the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI) to offer professional training on ethical artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing. This program seeks to empower nurses with the expertise and abilities to ethically and effectively navigate the changing landscape of AI-enhanced healthcare solutions.

“The incorporation of AI in healthcare brings both advantages and obstacles,” stated Jing Wang, dean of the FSU College of Nursing. “Our collaboration with CHAI will aid us in providing the necessary support to ensure that nurses are equipped to utilize these systems wisely while enhancing patient results.”

As AI continues to reshape the healthcare sector, responsible deployment is essential for preserving safety and facilitating patient-centered care. The college’s executive and professional education program, developed in partnership with CHAI, will furnish state-of-the-art insights into best practices, regulatory issues, and practical uses of AI in both clinical and administrative environments.

“We are excited to team up with the FSU College of Nursing to offer educational avenues that emphasize responsible AI,” remarked Dr. Brian Anderson, president and CEO of CHAI. “Nurses hold a crucial position in patient care and must be included in discussions regarding AI. I am eager to collaborate with these healthcare professionals to promote the safe and effective integration of AI.”

CHAI was founded by healthcare professionals with a mission to cultivate the widest possible consensus within the health ecosystem to ensure that health AI is reliable, secure, and safe. Currently, CHAI’s membership encompasses nearly 3,000 entities, including health systems, patient advocacy organizations, academia, and a diverse array of industry startups and established firms. CHAI is committed to fostering collaboration and dialogue to reach consensus. By partnering with the FSU College of Nursing, CHAI aspires to connect the gap between AI technology and practical healthcare applications, empowering nursing leaders with actionable expertise.

The executive and professional education initiative is slated to commence by mid-2025, featuring online courses crafted by specialists from academia, industry, and healthcare systems. This program is part of the FSU College of Nursing’s broader dedication to incorporating emerging technologies in nursing education and practice. In 2024, the college introduced the nation’s first MSN in AI Applications in Healthcare and the Nursing and AI Innovation Consortium, aimed at bridging the gap in AI and nursing partnerships.
