This summer, the Florida State University Honors Program initiated a new study abroad initiative in London for students to explore the history and impact of the Roman influence in Britain.

The Honors Global Experiences program, managed by International Programs at the FSU London Study Centre, engages students in historical exploration through site visits and practical learning.

Fifteen Honors students spent four weeks in London and nearby regions during July and August, enrolled in the course “In the Footsteps of the Ancients: Roman Britain,” which is one of the interdisciplinary Honors Signature Courses provided within the Honors Program. To graduate with honors, students in the Honors Program must complete one Honors Signature Course.

Honors Associate Director Michael Furman specifically crafted the course for the London experience, guiding students to locations showcasing Roman archaeological artifacts, including Bath and the British Museum, along with an overnight journey to Hadrian’s Wall, a 73-mile-long defensive structure built in the second century AD.
