Florida State University Celebrates Milestone with Its Largest-ever 25th Undergraduate Research Symposium

The Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement (CRE) at Florida State University held an unprecedented spring symposium for undergraduates on Tuesday, April 1, within the Student Union Ballrooms.

More than 700 undergraduate scholars exhibited their research endeavors at the most extensive Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) in the event’s 25-year timeline. The interdisciplinary showcase featured upwards of 500 posters and innovative presentations, drawing nearly 2,000 participants.

“We are incredibly thankful for the dedication of all the students, mentors, administrators, and staff who contributed to making this year’s symposium the largest event to date,” commented Latika Young, CRE director. “This expansion highlights the manner in which FSU endorses undergraduate research and aids students in pursuing their creative and academic passions from the moment they step onto campus and throughout their undergraduate journey.”

As one of the most significant university-affiliated symposia in the nation and FSU’s sole all-campus undergraduate research exhibition, the URS incorporates undergraduate participants from various disciplines, showcasing initiatives such as Honors in the Major theses and the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP).

Students discussed diverse subjects, including the influence of parental involvement on children’s reading success, risk elements in vascular dementia, the creation of polymer-based substances capable of enduring space exploration, and a historical perspective on Florida’s representation at two World’s Fairs.
