Florida State University has declared the appointment of Carlos J. Gómez as Associate Vice President for Health, Wellness, and Safety and Dean of Students, effective June 23.
With more than 20 years in student affairs across two educational institutions within the State University System of Florida, Gómez brings substantial expertise in collaborative and student-focused leadership. “I am excited that Dr. Gómez will be assuming this new position,” stated Vice President for Student Affairs Amy Hecht. “His guidance and knowledge will surely bolster our university’s dedication to fostering the health, safety, and achievements of all students.”
Gómez began his tenure at Florida State in 2014 and has since functioned as the director and chief mental health officer for Counseling and Psychological Services. Before this position, he was the training director at Florida International University.
“Throughout my professional journey, I have adhered to a service-oriented leadership model where I have continually emphasized the development and welfare of my staff, who in turn deliver exceptional service to our students,” Gómez remarked. “It is a genuine honor to take on this responsibility and a privilege to support the Florida State University community.”
Gómez received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and a Master of Science in Education/Mental Health Counseling from the University of Miami.
