A Russian government-backed cyber espionage unit called Static Tundra has been detected continuously exploiting a seven-year-old vulnerability in Cisco IOS and Cisco IOS XE software to gain enduring access to targeted networks. Cisco Talos, which revealed information about the operation, indicated that the assaults focus on entities within telecommunications, higher education, and manufacturing sectors.
